Hey, remember when I posted all about my little trip to Paris in 2009? Well that video is finally done!

My talented video production specialist friend – Mr Iain Slater BSc BBC – has polished it up with his trademark high production value. He’s slow, but he’s good! Have a butchers at the finished product (and some embarrassing outtakes).

Josie was obsessed with the idea that global warming was killing the penguins (all the penguins) so we definitely had to prank her. I wrote a newspaper article, the intention was to distribute it to local and national papers…but the campaign never really got off the ground!

The trick was to get the style and tone of the writing right – using elaborate descriptions and metaphors, and creating believable (but completely false) information.

Marble run fun

As a kid I dreamed of having a train set around my whole house that would deliver things from room to room, just like in Wallace and Grommit, but failing that I wanted some kind of marble run. Well it turns out I’m not alone; Iain has always wanted to build a marble run too.

It’s lucky then that we had lots of spare cardboard and loo roll insides (not to mention the time) to build a marble run over the three stories of our house. We made it have an open section, some transparent tubes and even a jump!

The insane paperclip chain

What do you do with 1000 paperclips you’ve ‘acquired’? Well, any sane person makes a paperclip chain. An insane person makes a giant paperclip chain and loops it around their entire house.

When we came across a motherload of paperclips the other week we took the insane persons approach. There’s now a 1000 paperclip long chain going out the kitchen window, up the side of the house, in a bedroom window, out the bathroom window, down the other side of the house, in the basement and through the kitchen. It’s a supreme achievement in office supplies engineering.

Birthdays, balloons and gherkins

Question: What’s weirder than a walnut in a balloon?
You’re right, that is a strange question but it’s exactly what Iain asked me a couple of weeks ago. He needed a birthday present for his brother and it had to be better than a walnut in a balloon (that’s what he got last year).
Answer: A jar full of gherkins in balloons.

A quick trip to the pound shop yielded some cheap balloons and a jar a gherkins. We got to work and individually wrapped each salty cucumber in its own balloon. But what to do with all the left over balloons? Inflate them and prank my flat-mates of course!
